Description

The A.O. Movement Collective will present its debut NYC Season with the evening-length world premiere of "90 ways to Wake from drowning" at Joyce SoHo on July 30-31 at 8pm. A forcefully imaginative journey, this piece signifies choreographer Sarah A.O. Rosner’s arrival to the downtown dance scene as one of the community’s important emerging artists. "Wake" bends epic storytelling into an immediate visceral experience set amidst a visual wonderland of car crashes and heavy slow dances. Mixing contact partnering, modern releasing, and detailed gestures with a choreographic approach reminiscent of the lush explosions of action-movies, the piece is a love letter penned in the aesthetics of mess. As She struggles with Him, navigating devolving memories and shifting realities, we explore how effort transcends, time bends, and weight remembers. Tickets can be purchased by calling Joyce Charge at 212-242-0800 or at www.joyce.org and are $15 general admission with $12 for students/seniors. Name of Event: Distilled Genius: The String Trio
Date: 12/10/09
Location: Broadway Presbyterian Church, Broadway at 114th Street, in Manhattan
Email Address: staff@nyphilomusica.org
URL: http://www.nyphilomusica.org

Description

In this concert New York Philomusica juxtaposes two great works for string trio: the most popular work of an obscure composer and the obscure masterpiece of a famous one. Dohnanyi’s Serenade, Op. 10, for violin, viola & ’cello, is considered by many musicians to be his finest work among numerous great compositions. This is its first performance by New York Philomusica. Mozart’s singularly beautiful Divertimento in E-flat, K. 563, for violin, viola & ’cello, is a splendid testament to the generosity of the benefactor for whom it was written. It also has a particular significance to the ensemble, which in 1975 was the first group ever to record the entire Mozart Divertimento catalogue, in which this piece belongs. Mozart has been a cornerstone of the New York Philomusica’s programming since its inception in 1971, and this concert will highlight once again how two composers working in two very different styles and centuries can touch an audience in much the same heartfelt way. Artists: Yonah Zur, violin; Junah Chung, viola; Gerald Appleman, ’cello. Tickets are $30 ($25 seniors, $10 students). Concert at 8 PM.
